Great Grandma Strand

My great-grandma Strand (mom's side) passed away 10 days ago. I am so lucky to have known her. She was the cutest old lady. I liked to call her "Spunky Grandma".

Jeff & I got to visit them a couple summers ago!

Here is her obituary:

Lois Elizabeth “Betty” Strand, 90, a longtime resident of Sagle, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Huckleberry House in Sandpoint, Idaho. She died as the result of a stroke. A celebration of her live will be held at a later date.

Betty was born on Oct. 13, 1923, in Mitchell, S.D., to the Reverend Albert Hartt and Laura Beal Hartt. Betty graduated from high school in Miller, S.D., in 1941. She then went to Berea College in Kentucky for two years. In 1943, she joined Cadet Nurse Corps in Mitchell, later transferring to Malden, Mass., to continue her training.
It was in Boston, Mass., that she met her future husband, Oscar Strand on a blind date. He was serving in the Navy aboard the battleship New Mexico. Betty and Oscar were married on Aug. 14, 1946, by Betty’s father. They were married 67 years and 9 months.
Together they were partnered with Oscar’s parents in running their dairy farm and later took over the farm.
Betty provided a loving environment for her family. She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed doing embroidery, reading, going for long walks and going on many road trips.
In addition to her husband she is survived by sons: Steven (Kristina), Jay, Kurt (Catherine); daughter, Sunny; grandchildren, Roni Regovich, Melanie Lawson, Tony Strand, Shane Strand; nine great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
A gentle, childlike soul, Betty, treated all with kindness and respect. Her family was the center of her life and she blessed us all with her tenderness and love.
